Key Workers

GISDA’s key workers support young people from day to day. The key workers use the STAR system to identify the young people’s support need. Then they will agree on a support plan with the young people that include working on a range of matters such as building confident, finding work, volunteering experiences or training.  They provide Anger Management sessions. Key workers also work supporting young people with various things such as misusing substances, supporting young people to budget and prepare them to live independently.

The Key Workers works closely with service users and referrers them to outside agencies, collages and GISDA’s projects such as Mentro Mlaen and Rhieni Ifanc Ni. We hope with the correct support and encouragement the individual can look forward to the future in a positive way, whatever their background.

After making an initial assessment of their needs, the potential service users will be placed on our waiting list till we find suitable accommodation. After we’ve assigned accommodation in a project run by GISDA a key worker will be allocated for the young person. Together they will create a support plan, using the STAR result model.  The support plan is unique for the young person and it will be reviewed every month. The support on offer can be a mix of services that is offered internal or externally i.e. referral to CAIS, Gyrfa Cymru, and Princes Trust etc.

Accommodation supports is on offer to people that are open to harm, or to maintain skills and confident needed to live independently. That is, the skills and confidence needed to undertake usual tasks needed to run your own home, the rights and responsibilities to correspond with occupy a home. Task that, by not completing to the correct standard, can lead to failure with respect to rights and the individual’s ability to occupy this home e.g.

The ability to pay housing cost (rent, mortgage etc.) so that the house will not be reposes

Ability to pay your utility bills and arrange to provide to services to maintain the home as a liveable space.

The ability to keep the hose safe e.g. maintain electrical goods or manage entry from visitors.

Ability to maintain the health and safety of the home, including keeping the building in a safe condition, using equipment safely and hygienic.

Practical living skills that are needed to live independently, such as cooking and nutrition and managing the home – e.g. washing clothes.

Everyone’s requirement will varied but we have the same goal for everyone – invigorate them so that they have the skills that they need to live independently and reach their potential.
