As part of GISDA’s 40th anniversary celebrations, a Young People's Services Conference was recently held – an inspiring, energetic event that showcased the very best of what’s possible when organisations, professionals and young people come together.
Young People's Services Conference
21/07/2025

The day was meticulously planned, held at the beautiful Galeri venue with glorious weather and a strong sense of community, collaboration, and pride. GISDA’s brand was present in every aspect of the event – clearly reflecting our values and our deep commitment to young people.
One of the highlights of the day was the Creative Corner, curated by the talented GISDA Creative team. This featured a collection of short written pieces by individuals who have received support from GISDA over the past 40 years, sharing powerful memories of their time with the organisation – a moving and inspiring exhibition.

A variety of breakout workshops were held throughout the Galeri building, with every room fully utilised. Among the workshops were:
- An introduction to GISDA’s work
- A funding panel featuring representatives from Children in Need, WCVA, and The National Lottery Community Fund
- A workshop by Frân Wen
- A workshop by the Gwynedd Youth Work Department – Gwynedd Council
- A workshop by Bill Rowlands, End Youth Homelessness Cymru
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the quality and impact of the sessions. We are truly grateful to everyone who contributed – for their passion, insight, and encouragement.

Speakers and Special Guests
We were delighted to welcome a number of special speakers throughout the day:
- Sian Tomos, Chief Executive of GISDA
- Bill Rowlands, End Youth Homelessness Cymru
- Iwan Trefor Jones, Adra Housing Association
- Lewis Williams and Ann Owen-Williams, Welsh Youth Parliament
- The Right Honourable Liz Saville Roberts MP
- Councillor Menna Trenholme, Deputy Leader of Gwynedd Council
- Anya Sherlock, GISDA
- Zack Robinson, GISDA
To close the day, we had the honour of welcoming Dafydd Iwan, who gave a powerful speech before performing ‘Hawl i Fyw’ acappella – movingly referencing the people of Gaza and the importance of human rights. He ended with the iconic anthem ‘Yma o Hyd’, lifting both the roof and our spirits.

Thank You to Our Sponsors, Staff and Young People
We are extremely grateful to our generous sponsors – Dewis Architecture and Richard Hall and Partners (Solicitors) – for making the event free to attend, including breakfast and lunch. Thanks to their support, the conference was accessible, inclusive, and full of value.
Thank you to the GISDA Board of Trustees for their continued support, and to every member of GISDA staff for their hard work and professional organisation.
Most importantly, thank you to the young people who volunteered throughout the day – their passion, strength and presence were central to the success of the event.
We have received incredibly positive feedback - with many saying the conference was a truly special experience, offering fantastic opportunities to network, learn, and celebrate the voices and experiences of young people who benefit from GISDA’s services.
GISDA is a charity led by young people, for young people - and this conference was a powerful and clear demonstration of that principle. It was a privilege and an honour to host such a meaningful and inspiring event.
